Why an air cooled engine ?

In the design of any aero engine, weight and reliability are all important.
Every component not used, is one which can not fail. By eliminating the need for a water cooling system we keep the component count and possible failing components as low as possible . Not only does it reduce weight (no water tank, no extra lines and fittings) but also the cost of ownership. By opting for an air cooled engine, we get rid of problems like freezing or evaporating coolant , broken water pumps and water radiators and replace it by something light and readily available when flying : AIR.

The cylinder heads and cylinders of the ULPower engine have massive coolinig fins for heat disssipation.
In addition to the air cooling system, we also use the oil system to cool the engine. A high flow rate oil pump and ensures not only lubrication but also cooling of vital parts of the engine . Each cylinder head has an integrated, pressurised oil line, to provide enhanced cooling of vital components. . Pistons receive additional oil to their underside through dynamic oil dispersion from customised con-rods.

Provided that the ULPower engine is installed in accordance with the installation manual, there will be no problem to keep all operating temperatures within limits even en under conditions of continuous high power loading and high outside air temperatures
